Named after the southernmost canton of Switzerland, and family-owned and operated by the Widmer family since 1979, Ticino Restaurant is famous for its Swiss-Italian Cuisine. All of the dishes created by head Chef Michael Samson are made from scratch using fresh, local ingredients, including cured meats from Valbella Gourmet Foods in Canmore, free-range Alberta eggs, and local bison, elk and beef. The drink menu features wines from British Columbia and cocktails crafted with locally distilled spirits from Wildlife.


The restaurant is Swiss-inspired with Canadian and Italian influences. The menu encourages people to slow down and savour high-quality ingredients. Now managed by second-generation family members Angela and her husband, Louis-Pierre, the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly with expert staff. Featuring a dining room and a glass atrium that looks toward the mountains and to Banff Avenue, entering the restaurant makes you feel as though you’ve arrived in Europe.

  • Zuppa alla boscaiola: Ticino’s famous wild mushroom cream soup
  • Caesar Salad: Romaine lettuce, house-made caesar dressing, bacon, garlic croutons & parmigiano reggiano
  • Insalata “Ticino Trio”: red beets with goat cheese on butter lettuce greens; celery root slaw; grated carrots with a citrus vinaigrette
  • Gamberi all’aglio: garlic prawns on a bed of chili/basil pesto spaghetti
  • Gnocchi alla Ticinese: pasta dumplings with home smoked duck breast on a walnut sauce
  • Lumache di vigneto all’aglio: vineyard snails in “Ticino” herb butter sauce served with French bread


  • Cheese: a mixture of imported Gruyère & Emmental make this Swiss cheese fondue a real delight, shared as an appetizer or as a main course
  • Carne: choose from cubes of AAA Alberta beef cooked in hot oil, thinly sliced strip loin of AAA Alberta beef & shrimp cooked in broth, or salmon, prawns & scallops cooked in a ginger fish stock, complemented by house-made sauces & condiments. Served with baby potatoes
  • Chocolate: traditional Swiss chocolate fondue, served with seasonal fruits & house-made banana bread


  • Cotoletta alla Viennese: Classic Veal Wiener Schnitzel with braised red cabbage & daily starch & vegetables
  • Petto di pollo “Ticino”: chicken breast stuffed with a light goat cream cheese & breaded with hazelnut crumbs served with daily starch & vegetables
  • Osso bucco d’cervo: slowly braised elk osso bucco with shiitake mushroom jus & orange cremolata, served with home made spätzli & vegetables
  • Bistecca di bufalo con funghi selvatici: Grilled Alberta Buffalo strip loin steak on a sautéed wild mushroom game sauce, served with daily starch & vegetables
  • Salmone grigliato: wild B.C. Sockeye Salmon with a macadamia nut crust on a roasted pumpkin vanilla risotto & vincotto drizzle
  • Anitra al sidro di mele: roasted Brome Lake Quebec duck breast with a caramelized apple & Calvados sauce, served with daily starch & vegetables
  • Lasagne bisonti macinata: ground Alberta bison lasagna, with caramelized onion, Béchamel sauce & a Swiss cheese gratiné
  • Ravioli ripieni di vitello: homemade veal ravioli with arugula pesto on a tomato confit with kalamata olives
  • Piatti alla vegetariana: vegetarian main course special on every night. will mix & match items from our menu to create other vegetarian options
