At the 2,281 m (7,486 ft) upper terminal of the Banff Gondola sightseeing lift, full-service Panorama Restaurant, self-serve Summit Café, 360° observation decks and Sanson’s Peak boardwalk offer incredible views. The vista includes the Banff townsite, Cascade and Rundle Mountains, the Bow River, Lake Minnewanka, the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel and golf course, plus a herd of bighorn sheep.

Restaurants offer tables by huge windows; the Panorama has soft lounge seats. At the base is Altitude 1583 Patio. The price for Alpine Lights and Sunday Brunch dining both include a gondola ride.

  • Appetizers: steamed clams with chorizo, tomato and white wine sauce; chef’s block antipasto platter; pulled pork tacos; pork button bones; roasted corn
  • Soups: tomato and black bean; hot and sour noodle
  • Salads: tossed with toasted coconut, cashews, figs and goat cheese; steak with feta; Asian noodle
  • Sandwiches: chicken with green chili tomatillo sauce; pulled pork with house made BBQ sauce; steak with olive tapenade and feta; roasted portobello mushroom with artichokes and goat cheese; grilled prawn with pesto mayo; cured deli meats with olive tapenade, smoked mozzarella and artichokes
  • Pork Ribs: a rack glazed in house made BBQ sauce slowly baked then grilled, with fries and coleslaw
  • Cheese Ravioli (add chicken, prawns or portobello mushroom): tossed in creamy tomato, basil sauce
  • Self-serve Summit Café: salads; yogurt; fruit; chicken nuggets; all-day breakfasts; panini (turkey, beef, grilled cheese); burgers (beef, chicken, veggie)
  • Alpine Lights Mountain Top Evening Experience (5 pm and 7 pm seatings, weekends): Banff Gondola ride, salad, Alberta prime rib (vegetarian option), stuffed baked potato, vegetables, artisan breads and dessert
  • Canadian Sunday Brunch Buffet (11 am to 2 pm)

Wines: Panorama Restaurant $32 to $44, eight choices; $8.75 to $11.50 by the glass
