At the 2,281-m (7,486-ft) upper terminal of the Banff Gondola sightseeing lift, full-service Panorama Restaurant (mid May to Sept, 11 am to 7:30 pm last seating), self-serve Summit Café (8 am to 9 pm; reduced hours Oct to mid May), 360° observation decks and Sanson’s Peak boardwalk all offer incredible views. The vista includes the Banff townsite, Cascade and Rundle mountains, the Bow River, Lake Minnewanka, the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel and golf course, and a herd of bighorn sheep (if you’re lucky).

Atmosphere

Restaurants offer tables by huge windows; Panorama Restaurant has soft lounge seats. At the base, Altitude 1583 Patio offers snacks, ice cream and BBQ fare.

  • Appetizers: prime rib sliders; potato rolls; spinach dip; baked brie; lobster stuffed mushrooms; duck confit poutine; blue cheese meat balls
  • Soups: red pepper (fire roasted tomatoes and crème fraîche); soup du jour
  • Salads: Granny Smith (greens, cheddar, candied pecans, pear dressing); summer (spinach, strawberries, onion, feta, tomatoes and balsamic); Caesar
  • Sandwiches: turkey club; prime rib burger; goat cheese and asparagus; chicken ciabatta club; blue cheese meat ball sub
  • Beef Tenderloin: house cut steak, red skin mash, fresh vegetables
  • Chicken Supreme: potato dauphinoise, mushroom sauce, fresh vegetables
  • Bone in Pork Chop: red skinned mash, green apple, fresh vegetables
  • Seafood Pasta: fettuccine, lobster bisque, peppers, bay scallops and prawns
  • Summit Café (mains $7 to $15): breakfast to 11 am, salads, yogurt, fruit, chicken nuggets, panini (turkey, beef, grilled cheese), burgers (beef, chicken, veggie)
